The Mallard Conservation Initiative
GOAL: Conserve vital breeding, migration and wintering
habitat in the Great Lakes region, Chesapeake Bay, the Mississippi River
watershed, the Columbia Basin and key areas of California.
-
North
America has more mallards than any other continent.
- Mallards are among the most prolific breeders in the waterfowl
world.
- They are present in all 50 states, with specific regions being more
important to their annual survival.
- Research indicates that reproductive success is limited by different
factors specific to certain regions of the country. For example, nest
success is most important factor in the prairies, while brood survival
is key in the Great Lakes and water availability is critical in
California.
Your support will ensure the continued viability of this most popular
waterfowl species.
