About Ducks Unlimited
Today, Tomorrow & Forever: The NCCo DE DU Story

Ducks Unlimited got its start in 1937, during the Dust Bowl when North America’s drought plagued waterfowl populations had plunged to unprecedented lows.  Determined not to sit idly by as the continent’s waterfowl dwindled beyond recovery, a small group of sportsmen joined together to form an organization that became known as Ducks Unlimited.

Ducks Unlimited Mission Statement
Ducks Unlimited conserves, restores, and manages wetlands and associated habitats for North America's waterfowl. These habitats also benefit other wildlife and people.

Thanks to decades of abiding by that single mission, Ducks Unlimited is now the world’s largest and most effective private waterfowl and wetlands conservation organization. DU is backed by more than one million supporters and has conservation projects throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and in key areas of Latin America and the Caribbean. Wherever waterfowl breed, migrate or winter, Ducks Unlimited is there.  Waterfowl are not the only beneficiaries of DU’s habitat work. Wetlands improve the overall health of our environment by recharging and purifying groundwater, moderating floods and reducing soil erosion. Wetlands are nature’s most productive ecosystems, providing critical habitat to more than 900 wildlife species and invaluable recreation opportunities for people to enjoy. The United States alone has lost more than half of its original wetlands and continues to lose more than 109,000 acres of the vegetated wetlands most important to wildlife each year.

Delaware is part of the Atlantic Flyway, providing important migration and wintering areas for many of the continent’s waterfowl such as American black ducks, mallards, canvasbacks, and Canada geese.  During this decade alone, working with a variety of partners, DU’s Delaware conservation program restored, enhanced and conserved 2,000+ acres of wetlands and adjacent habitat while completing 25+ projects. Delaware’s conservation projects are designed to maximize the amount and quality of migration and wintering waterfowl habitat as well as improve conditions for waterfowl production.

NCCo DE DU is a chapter established over 35+ years ago, when Delaware DU began its support of the North American DU mission.  As a Chapter we are responsible for the grass-roots fundraising efforts that goes on in New Castle County Delaware much like around North America and these efforts are the "cornerstone" of DU's success.

Chapters are
the heart and soul of Ducks Unlimited, dedicated volunteers in the NCCo Chapter and across our country manage and coordinate more than 4,000+ local fund-raising dinners, sporting clay shoots, and golf tournaments, while raising political awareness, and showcase wildlife art and the traditions of waterfowling heritage.

Whether it's selling tickets, gathering donations, securing sponsorships, contacting government officials, or putting together one heck of a party, DU volunteers annually generate more than 50 million dollars and over 400,000 memberships, the lifeblood of the DU mission.

NCCo DE DU has been recognized
for being one of the Top 100 fund raising chapters in the nation. Raising the dollars to help fund the Vision of Ducks Unlimited to fill the skies with waterfowl today, tomorrow and forever. Ducks Unlimited has recognized NCCo for the last 5 consecutive years with this designation

So the next time you see a Duck Head Sticker on the back window of a pickup, know that there is more to DU than a sticker.  Volunteers have a passion for the mission, and as past DU President Jon Tomke says "...I joined DU for the cause, and stayed for the people..."

COMMITTEE
CHAIRMAN
HONOR ROLL

Many dollars have been raised, many acres have been saved and many DU events have been run for the purpose of continuing the mission of Ducks Unlimited. The volunteer is the lifeblood of the organization. The committee chairman is the individual that experiences the pleasure of heading up a committee of highly dedicated volunteers with a single purpose in mind-Save the Wetlands.

The following list of distinguished gentlemen are outdoorsmen, conservationists and Ducks Unlimited supporters. Over the last 35 years these men were honored with the title of Committee Chairman. No matter when they served each one was charged with the duty and purpose of keeping the chapter moving forward and putting the best foot of DU forward in the community.
